New designated fund allows donors to connect with innovative educational center
Erlanger, KY – Horizon Community Funds of Northern Kentucky is now home to a new designated fund, in partnership with the Ignite Institute at Roebling Innovation Center. The partnership allows donors to connect directly with the Ignite Institute, using Horizon Community Funds to manage the distribution of funds for a greater tax advantage.
The vision of the Ignite Institute is to provide both a fulltime, tuition-free science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) curriculum to students and families, along with a regional training resource to facilitate regional/statewide educator STEAM training. Ignite Institute will focus on project-based learning in STEAM with real industry-case methodology, honing passion and direction for careers. It will incorporate best practices from similar innovative schools around the world.
The school itself is a two-story, 183,000-square-foot building, surrounded by 22 acres of green space and ample parking spaces. The building was donated by Toyota in 2017 after a series of regional discussions between educators and business partners focusiung on our educational future outlook. Following renovations, the program is scheduled to be ready for students in August 2019 for the 2019-2020 school year. It will open initially for grades 9 through 12, with a capacity to serve over 1,000 students at its Erlanger location.
“We are thrilled to partner with supporters of the Ignite Institute, which will provide an innovative approach to 21st Century learning in our region,” shared Nancy Grayson, President of Horizon Community Funds. “As Northern Kentucky’s own community foundation, we serve as a charitable vehicle for connecting community members with the causes they care about most.”
“The Ignite Institute will be a powerful catalyst for our education pipeline in Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati. It allows our students to become both career passionate and positioned as they transition into their future endeavors,” notes Ignite Institute Executive Director David Fleischer. “Furthermore, our partnership with Horizon Community Funds creates a seamless experience for donors who want to connect with our program and support our work in unlocking minds to the adventures and wonders of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the arts. In essence, this is an investment into the future of our communities.”
